I have increased the buffer to 386 and I still get this problem, but now it happends less. and the computer keep recording even nothing comes out the speakers.
Any recommendations for such VSTs that are free for live drumming?
I don't want to buy a VST just for the test..

Since it is a software issue, I will move this topic to the "Software Related" subforum later today.

You should really check your Cubase configuration and make sure you are using the ASIO driver. It makes no sense for your audio hardware to stall on this setup, I've been successful recording 20+ tracks on a much less powerful computer with no stalls and much higher buffers (512) with 3ms latency.

I am 100% positive that I am using the latest M-audio ASIO driver.
My Cubase is setup to use the M-Audio driver

Try demo versions of software, such as this.

I experience a similar problem.

Your description of how it happens is exactly what happens to me although I'm not recording.
Using Cubase and S2.0 - small kit size ~500kb - drag in a song to play along with.
Drums cut out for several seconds but music continues, then what sounds like a multitude of triggers all at once and things go back to normal.

Annoying, but it's just a hobby for me so no real harm done.

Oh I am not alone on this!

Which sound card do you use?
What are the buffer settings?
Did you try to configure your computer as a DAW as they say in http://www.audioforums.com/resources/windows-xp-optimization.html ?

Update:

Problem solved!!
I had to set Cubase to "Boost" Audio priority and also I lowered the Profire buffer to around 10ms latency.

Wow Mookie...have you been going the past 4 or 5 months with this problem and just got it resolved? or was it resolved a while ago?
How did you come across the solution? By the way, out of curiosity (and I may have missed if you posted it already), what version of CuBase?

I had no time for my drums in the last few month :) so I just resolved it last week.
I found the solution after hours of trying to find what the problem was until I realized it must be some Cubase setting.
I am using Cubase Essential 4.5.2 but I guess that every modern Cubase has this setting, however, probably its the fact that I am using heavy VST plugin like Superior Drummer.
