Yes, updating firmware problem. Again

Hello. I built megadrum a few years back. Synthex V.2.8 all in one.
Atmega 32
16 Mhz crystal
Bootloader V2
I didn't play drums for about two years now and today i decided to give it a go again. Downloaded MCT 1.84 and started it up.
My firmware was 2008- something. I went to "check for updates" in MCT and it found version 20100126. "want to update your Megadrum now?" Sure.
Boot MD holding the left button, press nothing for 16 Mhz and press down then click yes in MCT.
"Error trying to send the sysex file"
Tried a couple of times. Nothing. Tried right button instead of down. Nothing. Downloaded the 20091217 firmware-same result.
Turned off everything. Booted MD and all I have is blue screen. If I press left button then it goes to "Fw updater 16 Mhz, down-ok. Up-clock"
What to do?
