Cannot get Hi Hat pedal CC response

Postby dillan.k » Mon Aug 15, 2011 8:46 am

My hardware:
Hall effect sensor with magnet
Megadrum firmware 20110731

I have it plugged into the low impedance socket and it seems to work fine as I have been able to set the low and high levels so that the large VU meter reaches both extreme positions. My problem is that the hi hat pedal does not "seem" to be opening and closing. The issue came from not being able to set up the pedal in other programs like BFD, it doesnt seem to be getting the CC messages.

The documentation says if the pedal is pressed I can jump to different pads in the menu by just hitting them, I was not able to do this, even though I seem to be full range pedal respsonse from the VU meter, the menu also doesnt exit when the pedal is released quickly. It seems like my pedal settings are not being read as closing the hi hat or being opened etc. In MIDI-OX when I press the pedal down it registers midi info, and then when I release it does the same, it seems to be normal and shows foot controller next to everything. (I have attached the MIDI-OX screenshot)

There is a midi log in BFD where it displays the CC message from the pedal, when I press the pedal it shows nothing.

More of my megadrums settings are:
CC number: 04
High level: 342
Low level: 295
Auto level, alt inputs, reverse level, are off

The vu meter is full (on the lcd) when the hi hat is open, and shrinks down when the pedal is pressed, is it supposed to be the other way round?

Sorry about the problem being kind of vague, any insight would be greatful.

There is no MIDI-OX screenshot attached. Besides, you can use MDM to log MIDI messages.

For QuickAccess:

Changes in version 20110706:

1. QuickAccess function when set to Yes is now disabled until a HiHat pedal is pressed/depress quickly (splashed) 2 times. This is done to prevent disabling access to the menu if the pedal is not connected and the pedal levels are (auto) configured in such a way that MegaDrum thinks that the pedal is permanently pressed. In viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1637 you can see how this issue could exhibit itself.

Sorry about that, its my first time using the forum, Ive attached the file. I got the quick access working so I think my problem is just setting up the hi hat with the sample software.

I have the high and low levels setup, but just cant get the CC messages in BFD or addictive drums, Im using them with FL studio.

In the MIDI-OX screenshot there is no note number for the pedal, is there a setting in the sample software or megadrum that I need to change so the pedal can be detected? Or should the pedal be detected already?

In the Megadrum menu it has notes for edge/bow semi open, open, closed etc, if I am using the CC messages are these settings negligable? So if there are notes in say BFD for CC edge and CC bow I should map them to the hi hat "pad" notes? Is that correct? I understand you may not have the same software but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I may be mistaken but as far as I remember Addictive Drums doesn't support CC messages for HiHat pedals. I hope somebody with BFD experience will help you.

I will move this topic to Related Software.

I just wanted to update that I found the problem to be with FLStudio, no CC messages are coming through to the VST plugins. BFD has a standalone setup that I used to test Megadrum with and the HH pedal is working along with cymbal chokes. I will try reinstalling FLstudio.

Hi !

For info, I Use Addictive Drum 1.5 and CC messages are supported...

To configure it, Open the "?" and click on "Map Window" wich open the MIDI notes configuration....

Next, you will see inside the red circle on the left, the curve of HiHat Pedals (with my test config). To have this working, with MegaDrum, you must activate "CC reverse" !!!

In MDM, just configure same note notes for each different zones....

In my config, I had to limit numbers of mesured values sent by MegaDrum.... because there was too many data sent thru USB and all other Midi notes comes with a big latency (~1sec) :o

Sorry for my bad english, I hope you will understand me and this would help :)

Best regards...

JD.

P.S: It appears that AD1.5 support Snare and Ride Positional Sensing but not tested at this time....
