New to MD, need help with the MD Manager

Postby devilmuzic » Thu Jan 26, 2012 5:17 am

Hello,
Just got my Megadrum and I'm trying to configure it to my DIY kit I am making but I am having a heck of a time getting the Megadrum Manager to work. I am a mac user with an older dual G5 power mac running OS 10.5.8. I installed the latest Java for 10.5.8 (update 10), installed Madolane, and on the initial try I got the error that the Manager could not open because I was missing JRE 1.6. I then opened the Java preferences and unchecked (turned off) J2SE 5.0, and checked (turned on) J2SE 1.4.2. After doing this the Megadrum Manager will open, but the only menu option I have is the megadrum Manager which will basically only let me hide, show or quit the megadrum Manager. I'm not very experienced with Java and I'm sure the problem is user error, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry in advance for my ignorance.
Scott

Install the latest 64bit Java. I think for 10.5.8 on PPC it is version 1.6.0_26-b03-384. In the Java Preferences->General make sure that "Java SE 6" is checked and it is the first in the list. Try to run MDM again.

The version of Java that I had already installed was the latest build which is 1.6.0_26-b03-384 like you stated. I redownloaded and reinstalled anyways to see if anything changed and no luck. Java SE 6 is not an option and according to the Apple website the Java SE 6 is only for the 64 bit intel processor machines. the only Java options I have are J2SE 5.0, and J2SE 1.4.2.

As far as I understand their versions numbering migration, all versions 1.6.* are now Java 6.
Try to run the MDM from a command line:
Code: Select all
java -jar MegaDrumManager.signed.jar

and check the version with:
Code: Select all
java -version

When I checked the version it shows 1.5.0_30

When I tried to run from the command line I got, unable to access jarfile MegaDrumManager.signed.jar

I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what I am doing with java or the command line (kinda why I've always been a mac user to begin with). Is there anyone having success with a power PC mac (power mac dual G5)?

Java version 1.6 is required and I must admit - your Mac is very old.

Yes my mac is old, I was hoping it could run a program like Megadrum manager, but I guess if Apple isn't going to support Java for this old dogs, it isn't going to work. Thanks for trying, I'll have to borrow the wive's intel macbook to use the MDM.
