Megadrum with Roland Pads and Cymbals

Postby FreeTheDrums » Sun Dec 21, 2014 3:52 pm

Hi all,

perhaps one can help me.

My project is a big kit ( Roland Pads and Cymbals ) connect with Megadrum (incl Pos Sensing).

I use
some PD-85, PD-125 Snare, PD-7, PD-8
CY-15R, CY-12R/C, CY-5, CY-8
FD-8 Hi-Hat Controller, CY-12H V-Cymbal Hi-Hat
KD-120 V-Kick, KD-7 Kick

I search now for the best settings.
I found some in the forum.
But nothing for the PD-85, PD-125, KD-120, FD-8 and KD-7.
My own trials are not successful!

My Questions are:

1) When is a pad hot?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I see all my pads has a HiLevel < 500..800 with Gain = 1.
Is this hot? Need I a Voltage Divider?
What is the highest Volatge for the MD?

2) Some Forum settings for the sensitivity have combinations
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
HiLevel = Low Value and Gain = >1
or
HiLevel = High Value and Gain = 1

Does that make a difference for the MD Signalprocessing?

3) Roland use neg. polarity and the MD pos.. How do I connect both for the best result?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changes only in the Jack Connector? I think this is not possible without change the pol. of the Rim Piezo.
Change piezo wire in the PAD?

4.) Has any one settings for PD-85, PD-125, KD-120, FD-8 and KD-7?
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for all.

I wish all a happy Christmas.

Hi and welcome.
My advice is to learn how to setup any pad in Megadrum no matter what brand or diy project it is. This is a start point:
http://www.megadrum.info/content/megadrum-configuration
Ofc here on forum you can find almost any answer about every aspect of this device and edrums in general.

As per http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings:
If you set HighLevel to maximum, 1023, and still easily get MIDI notes with velocity 127 you probably have a very 'hot' pad and you may loose hit dynamics. Try lowering Gain. If it doesn't help will probably need to use a voltage divider on the input.

If you get HighLevel below ~800-900 with HighLevelAuto then you pads are not too hot and you don't need voltage dividers.

What is the highest Volatge for the MD?

5V. Note that this 5V has nothing to do with the signal voltage of an unloaded piezo which can easily be above 30V.

2) Some Forum settings for the sensitivity have combinations
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
HiLevel = Low Value and Gain = >1
or
HiLevel = High Value and Gain = 1

Does that make a difference for the MD Signalprocessing?

I'm not too sure what the question is. Gain is a "tool" to get widest signal range (read highest HighLevel) without clipping, i.e. so that MIDI velocity 127 is produced only with hardest hits with as high HighLevel as possible.

3) Roland use neg. polarity and the MD pos.. How do I connect both for the best result?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changes only in the Jack Connector? I think this is not possible without change the pol. of the Rim Piezo.
Change piezo wire in the PAD?

For MegaDrum signal polarity doesn't matter.

4.) Has any one settings for PD-85, PD-125, KD-120, FD-8 and KD-7?

If you cannot find others posted settings, why won't you try to configure pads yourself, e.g. using suggestions from viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1968 and http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings , and if you happen to bump into problems, just post these problems descriptions here?

Indeed, it's really not that hard and you will find that each pad will differ slightly with regards to settings even if they are the same type of pad.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.
