Saving configuration to Megadrum for my midi vibes

Postby kevin251 » Wed May 26, 2021 4:15 pm

Hi all

A friend has built me set of "midi vibes" which are being "driven" by my Megadrum 56 input built by Dmitri (click here for a Google photos album if you're interested in seeing their "story")

I have managed to connect to MegaDrum Manager FX, upgrade the firmware (megadrumSTM32d_56_20200331), assign notes and save the configuration (to syx and mds files) and send it to MegaDrum

On my PC I have a simple Midi Editor which plays the correct notes but if I disconnect and restart Midi Editor, the configuration seems to be lost even though midi is sent again. I then I have to restart the Manager, load the configuration and resend it.

So my first question is can I save the configuration to MegaDrum (I suppose it would be some sort of internal memory) so that I don't have to start the Manager every time

My ultimate aim is to use an iPad with a vibes VST to "drive" MegaDrum - I did manage (just once) to successfully send midi from the midi vibes to GarageBand but then it didn't respond (but that will be step #2)

Thanks in anticipation

You can save on the MD itself or on your pc. I'm guessing you aren't going to stray too far from the obvious note allocation so the choice is yours.
It really depends on wether you intend to program from MD or MDM.
Keep us posted on the potential crosstalk.

For saving configs using menu/front controls into MegaDrum non-volatile internal memory, see Save Config, Load Config and AutoLoad Conf in https://www.megadrum.info/content/misce ... s-settings

Thanks Dmitri. So am I correct that the the process is as follows:
  • program my items/notes/curves etc in MDM
  • save the syx/mds files to my PC as backup
  • SendAll settings to MegaDrum
  • use the MegaDrum front controls as per your link to save the settings/config into internal memory

Yes, you can do it this way. You can also use 'SaveToSlot' from MDMFX - it will send config from MDMFX to MegaDrum and it will be saved in the MegaDrum internal memory and this config will be automatically loaded by MegaDrum on power up.

Hi Dmitri & airflamesred

Thanks for all your input - I'm on the way...

  • notes assigned to the pads - Image
  • configurations started and saved
  • configuration saved to slot
  • basic midi response tested with https://midieditor.org/

I'll put up a video soon if you're interested but, in the meantime so I can tweak when I decide on my vibraphone VST, is there somewhere where I can learn more about

Thanks

Thanks - I couldn't find any info about the velocity curve x/y (2) axes - any pointers, please?

Just drag the nodes on the graph and tweek away. Personally I found it more intuitive to adjust the vst to suit but either is possible.
As far as vibraphone VSTs, the acknowledged king is from ://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/26-percussion/g46-vibraphone/
Works in the free version of Kontakt.
