Millenium Crash Edge mute

Postby Ilraga » Wed Mar 15, 2023 8:12 pm

Ciao
with my Millenium crashes (MPS 400 and MPS 600 - all dual zones with stereo cable) only head/bow area works, rim/edge area is completely mute - any signal even from the MIDI log monitor.
Configuration is dual or 3way Yamaha in head/bow, and switch in rim/edge.
I've repeated many time the Yamaha syle cymbal configuration guide, nothing change (both hitting the rim/edge area and choking)
Choke is working, so the edge zone in cymbals have no technical problem

The only way to have signal from rim/edge area is to pass configuration from switch to piezo, but in this way choke is lost

I have 5 cymbal all with the same problem: only head/bow works

Any idea?

Where is the choking switch located on these cymbals?

I don't know, I've never disassembled it, but I presume it's in the lower side, given its shape
Maybe some "Miscellaneous Configuration" can affect this performance?

On a piezo/switch cymbal for the edge zone to work for triggering the switch must be a "film" type switch located on the TOP side of the cymbal where you hit the edge area. Otherwise the switch won't make contact when you hit the edge.

OK I fixed it, working hard on the configuration: now it works properly!

What confused me was that in Addictive Drums you have just a note for cymbal, and for this in the Midi monitor in MD you have only signals from head/bow (the blue ones) and never from edge/rim (the green ones), when you play cymbals

Sorry for the "false alert", thank you for your support

Hi,

can you describe/post the config that works now? I'm interested.

Thanks!

Ciao!
Here are the two syx file for the two Millenium crash
I'm quite satisfied with them, now I can better control sound dynamics when rolling on the bow
As you can see for MPS 400 is a linear curve, while for MPS 600 there is a log curve, again for better dynamic control

Hope this can help you!
Francesco
