MDM send/get HiHat Pedal Settings - 7x64

Postby talrusher » Fri Jan 20, 2012 11:56 pm

Hallo,

have problems on getting and sending the hihat pedal settiings into mdm and md32. have the latest firmware and think using the latest mdm.

the hihat pdedal settings like notes etc wont comunicate between md and mdm at all ...

...often, when im sending settings to md, nothing happens, even if i resend it so oft i want. sometimes i change the settings and press send all or send and then save to config 1 and nothing happens. if i check it is then too late... have to set all again. theres sometining wrong with the connection between mdm and md. the usb connection is set right. firmware version is shown correctly in mdm an the midi led flashes everytime i send or receive, but without changing setting in module or software...

tried the second usb midi2 in and out, a midi cable and even a midi to usb adapter. all with the same problem...

Is it a dream?
Or can I believe...

Does MDM detect MegaDrum version? What does it show there?

yes md detects the firmware version right... sometimes, for an unknown reason not, but many things like the midi log working.

MIDI log will work even if the version is not detected (no two way communication between MDM and MegaDrum). It will even work with your Alesis IO.

Just tried it with the latest MegaDrum firmware (20111213) and the latest version of MDM (20111213) on Windows 7 64bit and could not reproduce the problem - all HiHat Pedal settings (including notes) are sent/received to/from MegaDrum with no problems.

i know ;)

what should i do? do you want a log? a few files? all you need... but believe me, this is a bug... maybe by my pc maybe by mdm... i dont know. but tried different cables, a usb to midi interface, midi over my soundinterface (omega), megadrum usb and the second usb... tried to change the chain id ... but in mdm it gets only from 0 to 3 in md til 127 ?!

should i kill mdm and delate it from my harddrive? i give it a try...

edit:
tried to delate mdm, but where are all the config files for it?

edit:
put my md32 with a new midi cable to the outgoing port on md and incoming port on my audio interface anf for now mdm receives the hihat pedal settings...
edit:
now the same problem, with the new midi cable over audio interface... it was runing exactly one time and since that nothing. pedal settings wont come over cable.

Hmm...finally I have got the time to give it a shot:

Tested systems: I have two notebook systems with Windows 7 64-bit and one system with Windows 7 32-bit. (all together 3 different systems)

My main system is a 64 bit system...and I have experienced the same kind of problems as talruscher. (It is not stable...and doing online configurations of MegaDRUM...have made me real suspicoius about the MegaDRUM BOX. I can't directly set the finger on what is generating the problem...but I think I have found a way to reproduce the problem.

The problem is completely consistent on both my 64-bit systems (The error will show up on both) but when testing on my 32-bit system: I had absolutely no problem at all to send or get the right information from the MegaDrum device. :-) I am not mad...!!

Reproducing the problem on the 64-bit systems:
1. Open MDM
2. Assign to MegaDrum Midi Port 1 (This will open the midi channel and show the firmware version)
3. Open my mdm configuration file (attached as MDM_Config.MDS in the zipfile)
4. Send All to my MegaDrum Device (I have a 32 channel - Dmitri produced box)
5. Close MIDI and
6. Close MDM (Important - Otherwise the old loaded information will stay)
7. Open MDM
8. Assign to MegaDrum Midi Port 1
9. Get All (From the MegaDrum unit)
10. Now you will see that the Hihat control panel won't update with the data from the device box. (Even if you recheck the data on the device box for Hihat control/panel - You will see the same information as originally set from my MDM_Config file.)

I have attached my saved file of the returned data from the device. (MDM_Returned.MDS in the zipfile)

More information about my systems:
64 bit
OS: Win 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1
Java 6 Update 24(64bit)
MDM: 20111213

32bit
OS: Win 7 Enterprise 32bit SP1
Java 6 Update 23
MDM: 20111213

64 bit
OS: Win 7 Professional 64bit SP1
Java 6 Update 30(64 bit)
MDM: 20111213

Just did step by step what you did and I could not reproduce the problem. Windows 7 64bit.
Code: Select all
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.4-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

Btw, there is a newer MegaDrum firmware version 20120122 which I did the test with.

Thanks for testing Dmitri.

I really wonder what the difference between our systems really is....could it be different language code pages etc...

I will test again with the latest firmware. I will change my working 32 bit system to 64 bit and see if it is hardware related.
