have found something new bout this problem:

have build in an old usb 2.0 card with a nec chip on it. from that on, everything works like a charm. all settings read/write working perfekt like they should.

my mainboard in my rig is a gigabyte with a p45 northbridge and ich10r southbridge (ga-ep45-ud3p). maybe, no, for sure this is a problem between this mainboard/chipset and the megadrum!!

Intresting!

Just to be sure how you succeeded...
When you say built in....do you now have an usb based pci(etc) card built in to the computer? (sitting in a slot)

And Before you installed the card...you where running MD from the usb ports on the motherboard?

Best regards

yes and yes ;))

have built an old usb pci 2.0 card (nec chip, dont know the brand of this card) into a free slot of my mobo, so if i use this ports, everything seems to working like it should. the hihat settings working perfectly and read or write is working like a charm too... give it a try and report your experience plz ;)

Hi again,

I am using a notebook from hp, modell 6910p...so the only chance to test a another card with usb ports is to insert a cardbus card. There is cards out on the market which has the NEC chip installed...but most often they are sold under other oem names. I picked one in my computer store...which had a chip from a vendor called VIA. I have now tested my equipment with the card but I am still experiencing the same problems.

Best regards

Hi, i had a chance this weekend to test the MegaDrum MD and MDM on a couple of other desktop systems. First i tested an older dell desktop system...with Windows 7. Java 6, v31. But this system showed the same problems as on my three HP notebooks. Difficulties to read hihat settings and lost connection when stressing the system from MDM trying to write data MD.

Then I tried a http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/pr ... 390_en.pdf system with Windows XP Sp3 and Java 6 v31 and actuall it worked perfect!

Absolutly no problems at all! MDM and MD worked like a clock...totally impossible to make it to loose the connection.

Now - i have seen how well MDM could work!!!

I am going to prepair a harddisk with XP and install it into one of my notebooks and see whats happening.

Best regards

Anders

Hi Talrushed - Best Friend!
No - I have not had the time to create a new harddisk with XP. But I will do this soon!

The problems still remain...but to my new findings:
Using one of my faulty notebook systems which had problems with MDM > MD
and instead install the rptMIDI (a virtual midi router software) and have MD connected to the USB port and instead run the new nice software MDCommander for IPAD against this notebook...I can just say - there is no way in hell I can get the connection to "hang"...
Strange...strange...is it...Windows 7, Java, MDM, USB...With these new findings above..WIN7 and USB should be okey! Then we are down to the implementation of MDM or Java...

The IPAD implementation of MDM is great to work with...easy and fast for testing different trigger combinations...so it is actually superseeding my needs to get MDM to run properly...

I still need an external USB power for MD to my notebook.

And yourselves? Does your system still work when switching to a NEC based USB card?

Best Regards

Anders

have found out, that this runs with my nec card, only in combination with a very short usb cable... if the cable exceeds more than 1m the connection between pc and md gets crappy...

... ive tried a seperate midi to usb cable/converter and with this, its exact the same problem.

...so i dont have any idea how to solve this... and its strangy why dimitri doesnt have the same prob?! oO

I am actually tempted to give away a notebook (with problems) to Dmitri ... for testing ...

In fact I was able to simulate similar behavior when I used a passive USB hab which was giving out less than ~4.7V. But with this voltage MegaDrum was also incorrectly (and intermittently) detecting crystal's frequency which in turn was breaking MIDI communication completely. This was one of the reasons why I added an option in the latest firmware to set crystal's frequency manually.
