Re: Configuring a Roland VH-11

Hi,

I just thought I'd add my voice to help confirm this. I have a VH-12 (essentially the same as a VH-11) but was having issues with the CC level from the controller jumping around even though it would move up and down the various levels.

I made a little adapter (1/4" socket -> wire -> 1/4" plug) and soldered a 10k ohm 0.6 watt resistor that I bought from Maplin (a UK shop) between the tip and the ring connectors on the plug and the jumping completely disappeared!

I haven't used a soldering iron since I was at school and am never convinced someone elses solution for their problem will be the solution I will word for me - but in this case it worked like a charm!

Thanks everyone who found this out and posted up the information.

Very Nice!!

Same solution - maybe a bit nicer, if you don't want to get involved with soldering in your MD!!

Now, we knows it works for VH-12!

Just wanna report back to you guys that I have installed the 15k resistor. Very very nice response and range control now with full range from 11 to 1023, I am guessing I could go beyond that but it's at max already. Also no more jumpy meter in the high levels. ;)
However switching to high impedance and/or Alt in-off didn't work for me. Nothing changes when I step on the pedal.

Sounds Great, but the values seems to be extremly high to me. But, are we talking about the Hihat pedal? Have you done the Highlevel sequence? Without the resistor installed...I have got a value between 40 and just above 230. With the resistor installed - I have got a value between 44 and 440. Using Altin and low/high impedance...I got a value about 44-880 or something.

But - I have found that the AltIn/Impedance was the second best solution for me. The best was to use High impedance and not Alt In when you had the 15 k termistor installed!

If you want to try it out - you need to do a re-setup of the high/low values again. (Highlevel auto=enabled - Do it on your MD for the pedal...do a couple of hihat pedal steps...and you will see the values your system will give.

Rock on!!

Best Regards

I have one question. Is it necessary to adjust the parameters OpenLvl and ClosedLvl when I only use CC Data for Pedal position with Addictive Drums?

If Addictive Drums uses CC data for pedal positions than you don't need to configure OpenLvl, SOpenLvl, HOpenLvl or ClosedLvl. You also should use the same note for all Open,Semi Open,Half Open and Closed HiHat notes.

Hi best friends!

I have just posted a new pack of my configurations. Pack 5.5. (with config files for MDS file for MegaDrum Manager, ADMap, ADPreset for Addictive Drums.) I have changed the hihat configuration quite a bit and I have been moving the hihat control to Addictive Drums instead.
So a lot of the hihat configuration have been pushed out from the MegaDrum device. I have rehearsed with the band with this config one time and in my opion - the hihat worked much better. Yes - you should patch your hihat pedal input with a resistor!!

Hello Megadrummers,

I would like to ask any VH11 users, especially Anders (angr77), if you experience any problems with crosstalk when doing pedal chicks because of mechanical coupling between the controler and the cymbal itself. When I do some pedal chicks on my VH11, along with the chick note also the bow note is triggered as it would be with a stick hit on the cymbal (because the moving cymbal mechanicaly strikes the controller). To prevent crosstalk I have to set HiHat threshhold as high as 40 or so and thus loosing sensitivity. Then I get a lot of missed hits especially with slow velocities.

I guess it could be solved with some kind of crosstalk settings with hihat pedal, but as far as I know there is none such a thing.

Best regards.

Hi!
It was a long time since I used the chick note functionality in MD...I am letting Addictive Drums to handle this function...So basically I don't know for sure...If it would cause crosstalks...never heard about it on this forum before. I could try this tomorrow...and determine...
