Saving config issues...

Postby G-Man » Mon Oct 28, 2013 4:19 pm

Hi

Basically I have 24 inputs on my megadrum, but not all of them work with my test piezo when set to 32 inputs. Then I change input value to 56 in MDM and all of them trigger. This is great! So I go MAIN -> ALL SETTINGS -> SAVE TO FILE. But then I click on "Send All" and it times out at 96%. This is OK because I read a post that this is a common problem. So I do it pad by pad, then it gets to input 18 and it times out at 96%. All pads are triggering at this point even though I get timeouts, and I click on the button Save To Slot 1. To test I switch off my Megadrum and then close MDM. Turn on Megadrum and restart MDM and it shows 56 inputs still, but the inputs that weren't triggering are not working again. So I do it all again.

Now I cant figure out which ones are working or not working, so in MDM I select Send TriggerIN and view MIDI Log, but can't see input data,

When I plug into another working input, I get same Ch# number.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I thought I'd ask before I do something wrong.

How should I set this up properly and save it so that it works with all 24 inputs every time? Did I get the right board for my intended use?

Your problem description is not very clear to me. Please write a step by step guide for me to reproduce the problem. Something like.
1. Turn MegaDrum on
2. Run MDM and connect it to MegaDrum. It shows firmware version "20130901".
3. I do this.
4. I do that.
5. I the get this.

Thanks Dmitri. Sorry I was a bit vague.

OK. I have reset my Megadrum back to default by holding left button in and powering on. MIDI LED FLASHES until I release button. I power it back on and open Megadrum. It shows firmware version "20130901". It shows 56 Inputs. With my piezo I connect it one by one and these are the ports as numbered in my picture that work:
3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,13,14,16,17,18 these work. (Makes drum sound inside MDM when hit, MIDI Light flashes)

1,2,20,21,22,23,24,25 do not work. (Makes no sound in MDM, no MIDI light flashes)

I Change inputs to 56 and go MAIN -> SELECTED PADS SETTINGS -> SEND TO MD. SysEx Timeouts on 96%.

So basically I cant get 1,2,20,21,22,23,24,25 to activate, even though the last time I selected 56 inputs in managed to detect all the ports with my test piezo. I want all of them to recognize my piezo and then I would like to save that config so that it opens that config each time I switch on my Megadrum.

When I got all of them to trigger the first time, I saved the config via MAIN -> ALL SETTINGS -> SAVE TO FILE. Then I switched off and went to work, when I came back the pads wouldn't work again. If I load that file via MAIN -> ALL SETTINGS -> LOAD FROM FILE it appears to load but those same ports wont work. Maybe I dont understand the procedure correctly for setting up the pads?

The other issue is that I want the pad info after each hit, like what input it is connected to. At present I cant tell by looking at the MIDI log because it says channel 10 or 1 for each pad that I hit. I enabled Send Triggered Ln to see if I have labeled my ports according to the drawing that I have attached because I cannot get in there to check as I have now glued everything in place. So I would like to know which port is connected to what PIN so that I can label 100% without pulling my enclosure apart again. But after I tick the box, nothing happens in the MIDI Log for me to tell what port is being activated.

I don't have an LCD wired at present so I can't use my buttons correctly to enable this function of seeing what input is being activated upon piezo hit.

I hope this is a bit more clear.

By holding LEFT button you're entering bootloader, not loading defaults.

MIDI LED FLASHES until I release button. I power it back on and open Megadrum. It shows firmware version "20130901". It shows 56 Inputs. With my piezo I connect it one by one and these are the ports as numbered in my picture that work:

You must read "MegaDrum kit - instruction manual.pdf" carefully about inputs pinout. E.g. Input 1 (Kick) is on pin 37 of the "Pads connector 1". According to your drawing nothing is connected to this pin.

I Change inputs to 56 and go MAIN -> SELECTED PADS SETTINGS -> SEND TO MD. SysEx Timeouts on 96%.

Provide a screenshot of settings you're sending to MegaDrum. Judging by the fact that you didn't first load settings from MegaDrum to MDM, you're sending garbage from MDM to MegaDrum.

So basically I cant get 1,2,20,21,22,23,24,25 to activate, even though the last time I selected 56 inputs in managed to detect all the ports with my test piezo. After enabling "Send TriggeredIn" in MDM you actually must send this settings change to MegaDrum.

Thanks again Dmitri

I need to ask then, why does the kick not need a second pin? The last EDRUM kit I made was from a Yamaha DD-11 and all the piezos needed the Black wire of the piezo connected to the negative on the board and the red wire to the positive on the board. How do you connect a piezo to one pin?

Do you know what (Common) Ground is for in electronics in general?
Did you look at "MegaDrum kit - instruction manual.pdf" as I suggested?
Did you see "The example of wiring input jacks to the Pads connector 1 is shown below:" there?
Did you notice there that the "Ground" pins are connected to all input jacks?

My version did not have page 7 that I downloaded on my phone. I will try not to ask any more questions.

You can always ask questions but I recommend you to read documentation first.
