What is the Java version installed on your Mac?
Do you have only one Java version installed?
Are you trying to install Mac version on Linux?
Does Web Start installation from http://www.megadrum.info/mdm/ also fail?

first, using the java online check it told me i did not have the latest java "version 7", si downloaded it and installed.
the process went ok, but then going to system preferences and Java, i couldn't open the Java preferences pane with a message like "it cannot open because you don't have a intel processor"... which is false, because i do have a macbook pro with intel processor. Then i'm not sure if it installed a 64bits version when i needed a 32 bits version or not.
So later i went to the command line to check what version were installed, and i only found links to 1.5 and 1.6 versions... no 1.7 visible. I activated the 1.6 version, but i didn't work more.
I have to admit i'm a bit lost in all those java tunings.

oh no, i made something bad trying to do "java -d32 /Users/raf/Downloads/megadrum-manager-installer.pkg", i realize now this is oncorrect.
The "$ java -jar MegaDrumManager.jar " is executed in linux, using the jar file pointed on the download page as the linux executable file.

i'll try that tonight

On Linux, you probably have OpenJDK or OpenJRE installed which miss some fonts. Either install Oracle JDK (or JRE) or install ttf-dejavu or dejavu-sans-fonts packages. See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8109 ... th-jenkins

good point :) installing ttf-dejavu made the frontend to work perfectly on linux

A limitation appeared : I couldn't open the megadrum USB ports while a2jmidid was started (to have the alsa ports in jackd). After shutting down a2jmidid, i was able to access megadrum with the java application.
Is there something you can do for it ? ... well this may not be the best topis as it is linux related.

yes, from the commandline:
MacBookRaf-2:~ raf$ java Downloads/mdm.jnlp
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Downloads/mdm/jnlp
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Downloads.mdm.jnlp
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:306)
at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:247)

if the command is correct ... ? but i don't know how to start it another way
edit
starting it with "Java Web start" does...nothing.

MegaDrum provides 2 MIDI ports via USB. Use one in MDM to control it and use another in any other app/soft.

Point your browser to http://www.megadrum.info/mdm/mdm.jnlp - it should prompt you to open it with Java Web Start. If it doesn't, select Other and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app

a2jmidi automatically maps ALL alsa ports, so i can't tell him not to use the second one....
my trick will be to disable a2j and connect my alsa ports manually to the sampler, it will work to finetune the megadrum on hte sampler, then when playing live i don't need the megadrum manager anymore.

Does Web Start installation from http://www.megadrum.info/mdm/ also fail?

finally ... I was able to start using my previously installed "Megadrum manager" Application. I started a java window, downloading the app from megadrum website, and then connected to the megadrum on usb... :o working this way, but need to be connected to the internet.
Still no luck with the compiled package

Internet is needed only for installation. You can run it without internet after that.

brilliant ! thanks dmitri, you know i'm really a happy user of the megadrum after two years of use in a rock band, and it never failed once :!:
I really need to make a video one day.

Can you tell me where the downloaded files are stored, so i can backup them ?
