Bow and edge separation - how??

Postby John M » Sun Jul 13, 2014 1:17 am

Just taken delivery of a couple of Triggera F13 crash cymbals. They're dual zone bow and edge chokable (piezo/switch). I'm struggling to achieve good separation between bow and edge. I've scoured the forum for advice and experimented with Dmitri's recommended settings but so far haven't managed to find a combination that works. Trying to take a methodical approach, I dialled in the bow as if the cymbal was single zone. Next I enabled the 'Dual or 3 Way Yamaha ' option. If I set Edge threshold to zero, I can hear the cymbal. When I raise threshold above zero, it assigns each hit to 'Note 0' rather than the assigned midi value, ie no sound. I've tried raising gain between 4 and 8, with corresponding Threshold and HighLevel adjustments. Still no joy. I haven't got as far as setting Edge threshold for choke on/off.

Has anyone else gone through this process and found a solution? I'm sure the right configuration is in there somewhere but so far I'm a million miles away! FWIW the video of the F13 on Triggera's website was carried out using a 2 box module which shows the cymbal working with excellent bow and edge response as well as choke. Megadrum has to be capable of similar performance!

I'm using Addictive Drums 2. If I select 'AltNoteChoking' in MDM, do I assign the choke midi note to the AltNote setting in the Rim/Edge window or DampenedNote in the 3rd zone option? Or should I deselect 'AltNoteChoking' and let AD take care of things via Aftertouch? I've tried both but with no success so far.

Try setting Dual to Yes and copy the head settings to the edg. Then hold the edge while adjusting threshold up until it sends aftertouch. Note the threshold point at which it starts sending aftertouch. Then keep pushing threshold up until aftertouch stops. Note that value too, and split the difference.

As I understand from the thread at V drums they are piezo/switch
Dual head to yamaha and on the bow select switch.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

I now have a chokable cymbal! Thanks for the advice - much appreciated!
Once I'm done tweaking I'll share my final settings with angr77 for inclusion in his Megadrum pad library.
