How can it be both?! If you don't have ''Open with WindowBuilder Editor' option then you cannot even say that it doesn't give 'Design' tab when opened with WindowBuilder Editor because you didn't open it with WindowBuilder.

From what I can see, World builder isn't going to give any improvement on the current MDM interface. I was more thinking along the lines of the CSS style jpeg and selecting an area.
I think we're agreed that the features don't need to be changed just layed out better and, more importantly, an in depth explanation of what the feature does.
EDIT
Mind you, having thought about this, a method along the lines of my above suggestion is not going to give that 2 way interaction between MDM and MD.

I'm having these problems after I cloned the Git-repository in a new Project:

Description Resource Location Path Type
Project 'MegaDrumManager' is missing required library: 'commons-collections-3.2.1.jar' MegaDrumManager Build path Build Path Problem
Project 'MegaDrumManager' is missing required library: 'commons-configuration-1.8.jar' MegaDrumManager Build path Build Path Problem
Project 'MegaDrumManager' is missing required library: 'commons-lang-2.6.jar' MegaDrumManager Build path Build Path Problem
Project 'MegaDrumManager' is missing required library: 'commons-logging-1.1.1.jar' MegaDrumManager Build path Build Path Problem
The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved MegaDrumManager Unknown Java Problem

Seems there are missing some things in your Git-repo for a successful build, which is why my WindowBuilder freaks out. Are you aware of that?

All I can see on youtube is this light blue, windows type frames which look rather dated, I think you'll agree. If I could get a feel for what eclipse can possibly do I might be a bit more enthusiastic with it.
Otherwise, as you mentioned before, about putting a wrapping around the java seems like the better option.

Java app can look anything you want regardless of what dev environment you use, be it Eclipse, Netbeans or anything else. For example all Android apps are written in Java and Eclipse is the most popular dev environment for Android.

I've just went through the hassle of setting up the development environment for MDM on my computer. As a result, I decided to contribute a README.md file to the MDM GitHub repository. Dmitri merged the file, so now you can read it on the MDM GitHub main page.
The README explains how to set up your development environment. Is this helpful to you? If you have any suggestions to improve the README, don't hesitate to tell me/us.

MDM uses the Java Swing toolkit and therefore you can set a Look and Feel (LAF) in Main->Options. One solution would be to expand the list of LAFs.
Someone suggested a CSS+HTML type approach. I believe the standard solution to that is JavaFX (overview is here) which is available since Java 7. However, after taking a brief look at the source code of MDM, I think it would require almost a complete rewrite to switch to JavaFX. I think, at the moment a reliable MDM is more important than a nice one.
